What Would Happen in the Minutes and Hours After a Coup in America? - VICE

The US government is never going to be overthrown, right? People don't even think about forcibly removing the president from office the way the leaders of some other countries have been deposed over the years. Well, some bankers did talk about removing FDR at the height of the Great Depression, but that plot didn't get very far.
But imagine a crazy America, one where the new president, a notoriously temperamental and dishonest oligarch, had just won a squeaker of a victory after an election that amounted to a year and a half of bitter struggle for the entire country. This president faces fights from a media he loathes and regularly attacks, his government's own intelligence agencies, a mass protest movement, an opposition that questions his legitimacy, and members of his own party who strongly disagree with him on some issues.
Meanwhile, this president has broken precedent by appointing several former generals to help run the government. One of these generals is almost universallysupported by the same media outlets who oppose the new president. Add this all up—the unpopularity, the unrest, the generals, the feuding with the deep state—and if it were any other country, you'd normally ask if there was a coup on its way.

Trump to sign executive orders enabling construction of proposed border wall and targeting sanctuary cities

President Trump plans to sign executive orders Wednesday enabling construction of his proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and targeting cities where local leaders refuse to hand over illegal immigrants for deportation, according to White House officials familiar with the decisions.
The actions, part of a multi-day focus on immigration, are among an array of sweeping and immediate changes to the nation’s immigration system under consideration by the new president. The moves represent Trump’s first effort to deliver on perhaps the signature issue that drove his presidential campaign: his belief that illegal immigration is out of control and threatening the country’s safety and security.
Trump’s immigration blitz this week is widely seen inside the White House as a victory for the self-described populist wing of his inner circle — which includes chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon, attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions and top policy adviser Stephen Miller.
But discussions were ongoing Tuesday about just how far to go on some policies, in particular the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA. The 2012 initiative has given temporary protection from deportation to hundreds of thousands of people who arrived in the United States as children. Trump vowed during the campaign to reverse it...... https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/president-trump-is-planning-to-sign-executive-orders-on-immigration-this-week/2017/01/24/aba22b7a-e287-11e6-a453-19ec4b3d09ba_story.html

CBS This Morning: Sources Are Telling Us A Leading SCOTUS Candidate Has Emerged To Fill Scalia Vacancy

Well, SCOTUS watch kicked off on CBS This Morning Saturday, with Jan Crawford saying that her sources are telling her that a leading candidate has emerged from President Trump’s solid list of judicial candidates to fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Antonin Scalia: Judge Neil Gorsuch of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Gorsuch is a Bush 43 appointee—and appears to be a worthy successor to Scalia..........

America's Second Civil War

It is time for our society to acknowledge a sad truth: America is currently fighting its second Civil War.
In fact, with the obvious and enormous exception of attitudes toward slavery, Americans are more divided morally, ideologically and politically today than they were during the Civil War. For that reason, just as the Great War came to be known as World War I once there was World War II, the Civil War will become known as the First Civil War when more Americans come to regard the current battle as the Second Civil War.
This Second Civil War, fortunately, differs in another critically important way: It has thus far been largely nonviolent. But given increasing left-wing violence, such as riots, the taking over of college presidents' offices and the illegal occupation of state capitols, nonviolence is not guaranteed to be a permanent characteristic of the Second Civil War.

Ethno-Nationalists Against Jeff Sessions

The National Council for La Raza has been at the forefront of the campaign against Senator Jeff Sessions as well as President Trump’s promise to enforce our immigration laws honestly and equally. Last weekend, the group arranged a march with Rev. Sharpton to protest the Sessions appointment. It has also organized news conferences on the issue, published an anti-Sessions attack on its homepage, are actively promoting the Twitter initiative #StopSessions, and had this to say about the senator in a recent email to its members: “[H]ow can we trust someone with ties to extremist anti-immigrant groups to oversee the lives of immigrants and the Latino community?” His views are “diametrically opposed to those of the Latino community… Tell your senators to protect and defend the rights of all Americans by opposing the confirmation of Sen. Sessions. Adelante.”
The organization’s attack against racial politics and ethnocentrism may leave some scratching their heads given the group’s own forceful ethno-nationalist mandate and long-time racialist ties to anti-white racist UT-Arlington professor Jose Angel Gutierrez. Before becoming a teacher, Gutierrez created a string of extremist ethno-nationalist organizations, including La Raza Unida ("The United Race"), a political party based in Texas, and the beret-and-combat-boot-wearing Mexican American Youth Organization (MAYO). He was also a key player in the Brown Berets, a paramilitary organization also from the late sixties that’s recently had a resurgence following its alliance with Black Lives Matter.

Trump, GOP set to battle on spending cuts

President Trump may be headed into a big fight with Republican lawmakers with his plans for dramatic cuts to federal spending.
Officials in the Trump administration are combing through conservative budgets to find ways to save money in an effort to get rid of the “tremendous waste, fraud and abuse” that Trump pledged to eliminate during the campaign.
Many of the proposals that the officials are reviewing would gain support from a majority of conservative House Republicans, who have sought to cut the federal deficit by scrapping government programs they view as unnecessary.
But some of Trump’s targets have fans in the GOP-controlled Congress, particularly in the Senate.
Trump's team is working with the Office of Management and Budget to lay the groundwork for the new administration’s initial budget proposal, which is expected to reach Congress in the next 45 days.
In their search for savings, the administration is relying on proposals outlined last year by the Heritage Foundation in its “Blueprint for Balance: a federal budget for 2017.”

Planned Parenthood: ‘We don’t offer prenatal care’

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards
Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is on record stating her business is essential to American women because of the prenatal care it offers.
She is emphasizing that point as a move develops in Congress to withhold the half-a-billion taxpayer dollars that each year goes to the abortion-industry behemoth.
The funding must continue, Richards said, because prenatal care is among “the kinds of services that folks depend on Planned Parenthood for.”
The problem?
Planned Parenthood “offers abortions, so they don’t offer prenatal care,” according to a Tempe, Arizona, spokeswoman for the business.
That’s right. The service Planned Parenthood says is so important, it doesn’t provide.

Where Obamacare Stands Now

While the White House press corps focuses on how many people showed up on Inauguration Day, President Trump’s first executive order is already weakening Obamacare in preparation for the repeal -and-replace effort in Congress in the coming weeks.

The order instructs all relevant agencies, primarily the Department of Health and Human Services, to “ease the burden” of Obamacare. If that sounds vague, that’s exactly how it was intended.
Health-care policy expert Merrill Matthews of the Institute for Policy Innovation says the lack of specifics means a variety of actions can be taken to protect patients.
“Departments and agencies with control over Obamacare under the Affordable Care Act ‘shall exercise all discretion and authority available to them to waive, defer, grant exemptions or delay the implementation of any provision in the act,'” Matthews told WND and Radio America.
“They can also relieve the states of cost, fee, tax, penalty or regulatory burdens on individuals, families, health care providers, health insurers, patients, recipients and so forth and so on,” he said.

'¡No, no puede!': Trump White House begins with English-only website

Donald Trump will not be 'El Presidente,' judging from the website his White House launched on Friday.
The new whitehouse.gov, unlike the online home of the Obama administration, has no Spanish-language content.
Visiting the old White House website address for content 'en Español' brings Web surfers to an error page.
The newly minted president made a point during the Republican primary season of his preference for immigrants to learn English, mocking former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish on the campaign trail..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/~/article-4148978/index.html

Thirteen Signs You Might Be a Hypocrite - Victory Girls Blog

hypocrite is defined as a person who “acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.” Examples of hypocrisy have been plentiful in the news recently. Just in case you weren’t sure, here are thirteen signs you might be a hypocrite.
(1) If you carry signs declaring “Love Trumps Hate” or “Love Not Hate Makes America Great,” or you chant “I choose love,” and yet you hurl insults, yell “F*ck you!” and give the finger to people you don’t like or who disagree with you, you might be a hypocrite.
(2) If you are upset over a crude, secretly recorded private conversation between President Trump and another man that occurred over 10 years ago, and yet you have no problem with Madonna offering blow jobs to people that vote for Hillary, or you give a standing ovation at an awards ceremony to a man who admitted to “unlawful sexual intercourse” with a thirteen-year old girl, you might be a hypocrite...... Trump signed presidential memoranda, not executive orders: Here's the difference

President Trump signs a presidential memorandum to withdraw the U.S. from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact agreed to under the Obama administration on Jan. 23, 2017, in the Oval Office.

WASHINGTON — President Trump signed three high-level presidential directives on Monday, but they weren't executive orders.
Instead, they were styled as presidential memoranda, an increasingly common but lesser known expression of presidential power that came to replace many executive orders under President Obama.
Presidential memoranda are "executive orders by another name, and yet unique," wrote presidential scholar Phillip Cooper on his book
Both forms of presidential action have the force of law on the executive branch, and sometimes they seem to be used interchangeably. Even presidents sometimes mix them up, referring to memoranda as executive orders, as President Trump did Monday on Facebook.
"Something that's in a presidential memorandum in one administration might be captured in an executive order in another," Jim Hemphill of the Office of the Federal Register told USA TODAY in 2014. "There's no guidance that says, 'Mr. President, here's what needs to be in an executive order.'

Liberal watchdog group to file lawsuit arguing Trump has already violated Constitution

A liberal watchdog group announced plans over the weekend to file a lawsuit against President Donald Trump just four days into his presidency arguing that he has already violated the Constitution.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said in a press release late Sunday that they are filing a federal lawsuit Monday to “stop President Trump from violating the Constitution by illegally receiving payments from foreign governments.”
According to CREW, the suit will argue that Trump has violated the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause, which “prohibits Trump from receiving anything of value from foreign governments, including foreign government-owned businesses, without the approval of Congress,” according to the group.
At the center of the issue is Trump’s failure to fully divest himself from his business empire, which continues to do business with foreign governments and businesses owned by foreign governments, CREW alleges.

What Trump’s pick for education secretary means for the future of school choice

Billionaire philanthropist and longtime education activist Betsy DeVos, who is President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Education, faced harsh criticism from Democrats this week during her Senate confirmation hearing, but school choice advocates are electrified by the possibility that, together, Trump and DeVos might turn America’s education system upside down.
TheBlaze spoke Wednesday with perhaps one of the nation’s highest profile school choice advocates. Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week, once worked with DeVos at the national school choice advocacy group, the American Federation for Children. National School Choice Week is next week, Jan. 22-28.
Campanella said he is encouraged by the policies Trump and his education secretary-designate have set forward because, in Campanella’s opinion, they will “expand educational options for families” and get rid of the “strings attached” to federal education dollars that can stifle creativity and innovation in America’s classrooms.

Articles: Trump's Wall vs. the Devil's Lottery

We argue that Trump's wall and enforcement of the immigration laws already on the books would actually be more compassionate than our current immigration policy – the virtually open border, lax enforcement of the immigration laws, and sanctuary cities.
It is true that many Hispanics illegally crossing our southern border have found a better life here. But they are the winners of a Devil's Lottery. The losers include not only the thousands who have died in the desert, but the countless thousands more who find only hardship and misery, including slavery, after they reach the U.S.
Surely, this humanitarian catastrophe outweighs the benefits. And the dark side of illegal immigration would discredit the whole if the readily available facts were widely reported......

Trump could sign executive orders today on trade, EPA, lobbying

President Donald Trump will sign more executive orders this morning imposing his will on the country as he sends his predecessor's agenda through the paper shredder.
Trump will make full use of his executive authority to halt work on Barack Obama's trade policies and begin work on the wall with Mexico. Orders on both matters could come today or later this week.
The president is also expected to take action on NAFTA, a lobbying ban, and a proposal to prohibit non-governmental organizations from receiving foreign aid if they perform abortions. A Trump source told Axios that the list of orders includes 'dozens for the EPA.'

ABC News’ Terry Moran: Trump Inauguration Speech Had ‘Anti-Semitic Overtones’ - Breitbart

Moran began by conceding Trump’s message was “why he was sent here, by people who want to hear that message of America first.”
“However, it carries with it overtones from the 1930s, when an anti-Semitic movement saying, ‘We don’t want to get involved in Europe’s war. It’s the Jews’ fault in Germany,’” he pontificated, before adding ominously, “Charles Lindbergh led them.”
“It is a term, as he defined it his way, but the words themselves carry very ugly echoes in our history,” said Moran, serving notice the new President that he must carefully consider the psychotic delusions of paranoid ABC News reporters before choosing his every word. Apparently Trump can explain what he means a million times without exorcising the ghost of Charles Lindbergh from certain imaginations.
This is an especially outrageous charge to level at Trump when his inauguration included the first benediction from an Orthodox rabbi ever, and the first Jewish prayer since Ronald Reagan’s second inaugural. Not only that, but Rabbi Marvin Hier is the head of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. He’s probably a lot better than Terry Moran at detecting actual anti-Semitism.

Divide in America deeper than ever before

Americans see their nation’s Democratic and Republican parties separated by a wide gap, with “little optimism that the country’s political divisions will subside any time soon,” according to a new Pew Research poll.

“Fully 86 percent describe the country as more politically divided today than in the past, while just 12 percent say the country is no more divided,” Pew reported.
Interestingly, only about 46 percent said that when Barack Obama became president in 2009, but the numbers started rocketing up the scale almost immediately.
“The current mood stands in stark contrast to January 2009, before Barack Obama took office. At that time, just 46 percent said the nation was more politically divided. But a few months into Obama’s first term, the share saying the country was more divided politically had risen to 61 percent.”
Pew Research said only 24 percent of Americans now expect the divisions to lessen over the coming years.  http://www.wnd.com/2017/01/pew-divide-in-america-deeper-than-ever-before/

Woman harasses Trump supporter on airplane, gets booted off

Scott Koteskey said he was about to take his window seat on a flight from Baltimore to Seattle Saturday when a woman in the seat next to him — in a “very stern voice” — asked: “Did you come here to cheer or to protest?”
Given the inauguration of Republican President Donald Trump occurred in Washington, D.C., Friday, Koteskey knew what the woman was referring to and answered, “I came here to celebrate democracy, ma’am.”
With that, Koteskey said, the woman went off on him, saying he “put a crazed man in charge of the nuclear codes! You should be ashamed!”
When Koteskey replied that “we’re all entitled to our opinions here, ma’am,” he said the woman told him she’s “entitled to get drunk and puke in your lap! I’m going to throw up right in your lap! You make me sick! Don’t talk to me! Don’t look at me!”
Oh, and Koteskey said she called him a “bigot” and that he should get off the plane. http://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/01/23/unhinged-woman-goes-off-on-trump-supporter-on-airplane-cabin-cheers-what-happens-to-her/

Statistics show women may actually have it better than men

EXCLUSIVE: Women’s March Protesters Booed Trump Hotel Staffers Who Aided Woman Having Heart Attack

Hotel staffers who crossed protest barricades to treat a heart-attack victim outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington this weekend were treated to jeers and anti-Trump slogans by protesters.
Around 4 p.m. Saturday, a woman protester suffered a heart attack on the street outside the Trump hotel. The medical emergency sent a hotel staffer sprinting outside with an automated external defibrillator.
Protesters held back by crowd control barricades loudly booed the staffer before the man passed the defibrillator to law enforcement.
As video exclusive to Heat Street shows, officers expressed displeasure to the protesters over the jeering: “One of the protesters had a heart attack,” a police officer told a protester. “They are trying to help.”
“You [are] booing…” the officer continued. “They are trying to save one of y’all’s life.”
